*Dr Ngaio Beausoleil
Nicolas de Graaff has worked in the zoo industry for over 20 years, fulfilling roles in zoo keeping, collection management, exhibit planning and legislative compliance. Since 2013 Nick has performed in the role of Accreditation Manager for the Zoo and Aquarium Association Australasia. Nick facilitates the development and implementation the Association’s Accreditation Program which is primarily focused on the promotion of ‘positive’ welfare and is the primary reviewer when undertaking Accreditation site visits. Nick works closely with the Accreditation and Animal Welfare Committee (AAWC) to support members with their animal welfare endeavours. In the office, Nick works to support members professional practices in animal care and welfare. Nick holds a Bachelor of Science (Biology) and is an Associate of the Animal Welfare and Bioethics Centre.
*Sally Binding
Sally has worked as the Animal Welfare Training Officer for the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) for the past 5 years. Her role involves the coordination and delivery of animal welfare staff training programmes across a European and Middle-Eastern platform. Sally works alongside the EAZA Animal Welfare- and Animal Training- Working Groups and is an Advisor to the EU-funded European Zoo Keeper Competency Framework Project. Prior to joining EAZA, Sally worked as a Bear Manager at the Animals Asia Bear Rescue Centre, China and a Lecturer in Animal Management, UK. She has an MSc in Wild Animal Biology from the Zoological Society of London and Royal Veterinary College, London.
*Nicolas de Graaff
Ngaio is Associate Professor in Applied Ethology and Animal Welfare Science and Co-director of the Massey University Animal Welfare Science and Bioethics Centre. Her research employs behavioural and physiological methods to investigate various aspects of animal welfare. Ngaio continues to explore various aspects of domestic animal behaviour and welfare, while also pursuing a strong interest in wild animal welfare and its evaluation. She is particularly interested in the interface between conversation and welfare sciences and the ways in which welfare science can contribute to the success of conservation activities including captive animal management; she is keen to collaborate with conservation and zoo scientists with similar interests.
