U.K.-based sister trio The Staves makes its Atlantic Records debut next week with “Dead & Born & Grown,” an album of mesmerizing folk-rock highlighted by instantly engrossing vocal harmonies. Before The Staves tear up South By Southwest later this week in preparation of the Mar. 19 release of their first album, check out the full LP, streaming only in the U.S. on Billboard.com:
After supporting artists like Bon Iver and the Civil Wars on the road last year, Jessica, Emily and Camilla Staveley-Taylor have crafted a full-length that draws upon a wide range of sonic influences — from the sun-streaked California folk scene of the 1960s to contemporary artists like Laura Marling and Fleet Foxes — while carrying breathtaking songwriting flourishes. Credit goes to album producers Glyn and Ethan Johns, whose combined credits include the Rolling Stones, Ryan Adams, the Eagles and Marling herself.
Before “Dead & Born & Grown” hits stateside stores next week, The Staves will play a slew of shows at SXSW, including Friday (Mar. 15) at St. David’s Historic Sanctuary and Saturday at the Knuckle Rumble Lounge. The trio kicks off a U.K. tour on April 18 in Ashford, and a headlining tour of North America is also in the works, with dates forthcoming.
