GIRL ABOUT TOWN: Did Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch visit girlfriend's mother to ask for daughter's hand?
Get ready for some bad news, ladies – Benedict Cumberbatch could soon be off the singles market.
The handsome Sherlock star flew to Edinburgh last week to see the mother of his girlfriend Sophie Hunter, prompting speculation he is preparing to ask for her daughter’s hand in marriage.
Benedict and Sophie have gone to great lengths to avoid being seen together in public since they first met in 2009, but broke cover recently to appear arm-in-arm at the wedding of the actor’s old school pal, James Rhodes.

Sophie is said to be close to her mother Anna after her parents divorced when she was a child. While the couple were in Edinburgh, I hear they toured the Royal Botanic Garden.
Look out for Scarlett Curtis, below, in the next series of US comedy Girls.
I gather the 19-year-old blogger and budding comedian – the daughter of director Richard and his long-term partner Emma Freud – has been taken under the wing of Girls creator Lena Dunham. A friend of Scarlett told me last week: ‘Lena loved her, it’s amazing!’

Critics have been heaping praise on Gone Girl stars Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck, but there’s one cast member receiving even better reviews.
Bleeker, the ginger tabby from the movie, has become an internet sensation and already has a page dedicated to it on actress Zooey Deschanel’s blog, while Noah star Ariane Rinehart tweeted: ‘I can’t wait for the Gone Girl sequel from the POV of the cat.’
