Since parting ways with the Knicks on May 14, Mike D'Antoni's name has popped up in several coaching rumors but, according to a report, he is unlikely to coach next season.
Citing a person close to D'Antoni, the New York Post reported D'Antoni is likely to take next season off due to personal reasons. D'Antoni's son will be a high school senior next year. The Post also cites D'Antoni's position on the USA Olympic basketball team's coaching staff as a possible reason D'Antoni will take next season off.
The 2012 Olympics begin July 27, with the gold medal basketball game scheduled for Aug. 12. D'Antoni's Olympic responsibilities may make transitioning to a new team difficult due to missed time. Recent rumors suggested D'Antoni might be interested in the Orlando Magic job should it come open this summer.
