Steven Gerrard wasn't alone this weekend in wanting to make a quick exit from the football pitch.
While the Liverpool legend needed only mere minutes to ensure a early shower in the match against Manchester United, Nigerian forward Emmanuel Emenike tried to force his exit from Fenerbahçe's game against Beşiktaş after about 20 minutes.
After Emenike missed an easy one-on-one chance after some poor defending by Beşiktaş, he soon felt the wrath of the Fenerbahçe fans, who began to taunt him with jeers and boos.
Clearly distressed by both the fan reaction and his poor performance, Emenike became visibly agitated by his continued presence on the pitch. He began gesturing toward the bench to substitute him, and when they didn't respond, he tore his shirt off and ran to the touchline, throwing cursory hand movements towards the irate crowd.
He was kept on the pitch until half time, when he was then replaced by Cameroonian striker Pierre Webo.
Fortunately for all Fenerbahçe players and fans involved, a late strike from Moussa Sow earned the side three points in Istanbul, with the club only two points behind leaders Galatasaray.
