Michelin Travel Publications released New York City’s 2015 Michelin Guide today, which included the results of its highly anticipated star selection. Since the guide was launched in 2005, it has awarded stars to just 126 of New York’s thousands of restaurants.

The Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare, Le Bernardin, Eleven Madison Park, Jean-Gorges, Masa and Per Se earned the highest distinction with three stars. There were no new restaurants added to the three star category, and only eight restaurants have earned the honor over the past decade.

Meanwhile, Daniel, a French restaurant owned by Chef Daniel Boulud located on the Upper East Side, was downgraded from three to two stars. The restaurant had retained three stars since 2010.

Three restaurants moved from one to two stars this yearBlanca, located in Brooklyn; Aquavit, a Nordic-inspired spot where chef Emma Bengtsson becomes the first female chef in New York to gain two star; and Ichimura, which serves Japanese fare. In all, nine restaurants garnered two stars this year, up from five in 2013.

There are 17 new arrivals on the one-star list, including two in Queens, Casa Enrique and M. Wells Steakhouse.

Michelin inspectors included 60 different types of cuisines, from restaurants throughout the boroughs, in its guide. Michael Ellis, the International Director of the Michelin Guide, said in a press release that this variety of dishes represents “an exciting development” in the quality of cuisine offered throughout the city.

Michelin stars in the United Kingdom were announced earlier in the week, as were New York's Bib Gourmands, or best restaurants for their value.

The red-covered guide goes on sale Wednesday.
