Avicii Hospitalized for Gall Bladder Surgery

Deadmau5 taking over DJ's slot at Ultra Music Festival

Avicii has been forced to cancel his appearance at this weekend’s Ultra Music Festival in order to undergo gall bladder surgery. The festival announced on Friday that Deadmau5 will be taking over to close out the mainstage on Saturday night.

The 24-year-old Swedish DJ, whose real name is Tim Bergling, fell ill shortly before flying to Miami for a series of appearances, including Ultra. As the pain grew worse, he checked himself into a hospital just before he was scheduled to play a set at Miami’s SLS South Beach hotel on Thursday.

Avicii sent out a note to his fans on Facebook explaining the situation on Friday evening: “I’m really sorry but as some of you have already heard, I will not be playing Ultra Festival this weekend,” he wrote.

“My fans know that I have had issues in the past with my stomach and pancreatitis…I woke up on Wednesday morning with serious pain but I flew to Miami anyway, hoping that it would go away. The pain was still there when I landed so I went straight to hospital. I was treated and left later that night.

“Unfortunately, the pain came back yesterday afternoon and I returned to the hospital where they admitted me to stay overnight. My doctors have decided to operate and remove my gall bladder tomorrow morning. It’s a routine procedure and all going well, I expect to be fully recovered and back on my feet in time for my US True Tour.

“Thanks for your concern everyone, it means a lot to me!”

Deadmau5, who will now be performing at Ultra Music Festival with a “special guest” on a mainstage that also includes Alesso, Armin Van Buuren, Martin Garrix and Nicky Romero, seems ready to roll with the new gig. “Well… looks like my stay here in miami just got extended for a couple more days ;)” Deadmau5 tweeted on Friday. “Stranger shit has happened… thats for sure. but, glad i could help a friend out and be with my fans tomorrow night :)”
