Doctor Strange has been rumoured to be a 'hub' character in Marvel Studios' Phase Three.

The Sorcerer Supreme will apparently play a central role similar to the one Iron Man has performed in Phases One and Two.

"What I can say is that Strange is being groomed to be the next Iron Man," a source told Comic Book Movie.

"The studio needs a new 'hub' character going into Phase 3 and beyond, as there is audience fatigue, ageing stars and a need to move from Tony Stark/Iron Man as a 'hub' for films."

Robert Downey Jr's continuing role as Stark has been in question since Iron Man 3, although he is reported to have signed on for Avengers 2 and 3.

Justin Theroux has been rumoured for the role of Stephen Strange.

Marvel has announced release dates for its future films on May 6, 2016, July 8, 2016 and May 5, 2017, although it has not revealed which films those will be.
