Fermin started a total of nine of the Royals’ first 25 games, but the Royals are more frequently going with Salvador Perez at DH now, probably in part because their designated hitters have been terrible, They’re batting .191/.271/.348 and that’s with Perez hitting .316/.350/.579 in his five starts.

MIL 2nd Baseman #2

14mBrice Turang is back in the Brewers lineup Thursday after missing one game with an illness.

Isaac Collins and Vinny Capra split duties at second base in Turang’s place Wednesday, with Collins starting and getting two plate appearances and Capra coming in and batting three times.

KC Relief Pitcher #45

19mRoyals selected the contract of RHP Taylor Clarke from Triple-A Omaha.

The veteran Clarke, who had a 5.08 ERA in 108 innings for the Royals between 2022 and ’23, will get another chance here. Expect the Royals to use him in the middle innings. He had a 4.40 ERA and a 9/5 K/BB in 14 1/3 innings as a reliever for Omaha.

KC Starting Pitcher #65

21mRoyals optioned LHP Noah Cameron to Triple-A Omaha.

6 1/3 scoreless innings in his major league debut last night wasn’t enough to keep Cameron around for now, but is assures he’ll get another chance next time the Royals need a starter.

KC Relief Pitcher #66

22mRoyals transferred RHP James McArthur from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list.

MacArthur had offseason surgery to repair an olecranon fracture in his elbow and has yet to resume throwing. He probably won’t be a factor prior to the All-Star break.

CWS Shortstop #10

28mWhite Sox activated INF Chase Meidroth from the 10-day injured list.

Meidroth missed the minimum 10 days with thumb inflammation. He’ll return to being an everyday middle infielder for the White Sox and probably see more time at shortstop for now. He started five games at second and three at short during his eight-game stint before going on the IL. Jacob Amaya figures to lose time, and Books Baldwin will probably play more outfield.

CWS 3rd Baseman #41

31mWhite Sox placed INF Gage Workman on the 10-day injured list with a right hip flexor strain.

Workman is a Rule 5 pick from the Tigers, so there’s no sending him down. Instead, the White Sox will go this route to get him some minor league at-bats before bringing him back. Workman was 0-for-2 in three appearances since being picked up from the Cubs last week.

Christopher Morel

TB Left Fielder #24

57mChristopher Morel is taking a seat in favor of Travis Jankowski against the Royals on Thursday.

Even with Josh Lowe, Jake Mangum, Jonny DeLuca and Richie Palacios all on the IL, Morel still isn’t playing full-time for the Rays. He’s sat against two of the last three righties the team has faced, which is all the weirder given that he’s hit .278/.371/.463 versus right-handers this year.

NYM Left Fielder #9

1hBrandon Nimmo, who missed two starts due to an illness, is playing left field Thursday against the D-backs.

Nimmo did come off the bench and pinch-hit last night. Starling Marte is on the bench today after helping fill in for Nimmo the last two games.

ARI Center Fielder #5

1hAlek Thomas is back in center field Thursday after consecutive days off.

Jorge Barrosa started over Thomas against a lefty on Tuesday, which wasn’t surprising, but also again versus a righty yesterday. Following a hot start, Thomas has been unexceptional of late, hitting .243/.300/.324 in his last 11 games. Barrosa, though, is only 3-for-15 with a 5/0 K/BB since his callup.
