Brooklyn Nets Announce They'll Wear 'Nickname Jerseys' Jan. 10 vs. Heat

Fans of the Brooklyn Nets haven't had much to celebrate this season. The team with such high hopes in the offseason has crumbled under the weight of injuries and poor play, and it won't have access to one of its own draft picks until Doomsday.

But Nets fans with a passion for nicknames can look forward to Brooklyn's January 10 tilt against the Miami Heat. Not only will they be able to relive their team's best win of the season—November 1 against this very same Heat squad—but they will be able to watch their favorite Nets play in nickname uniforms. 

Per Slam Magazine:

A few thoughts:

• Кириленко is not a nickname. It's Andrei Kirilenko's last name in the Cyrillic alphabet of his native Russia. It's the name on his birth certificate.
• Too bad the Nets no longer employ former center Yi Jianlian. Adidas could have made a bundle selling 易建联 jerseys.
• Deron Williams should change that D-Will nickname. Not only is it boring, but it reminds New York fans of the hated A-Rod.
• Paul Pierce's "Truth" jersey is awesome.
• Kevin Garnett's jersey isn't in the photo, but hopefully the Nets will use "Big Ticket" instead of the mechanical "K.G."
• What exactly is Tornike Shengelia's nickname? Whatever it is, it can't possibly be better than his actual name.

The Heat will also wear nickname jerseys, according to Slam.

It makes sense. This will be a reunion of the old Celtics Big Three, so why should "Truth" and "Big Ticket" get to strut their stuff while leaving "J. Shuttlesworth" out in the cold?
