King of all things Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, is just full of opinions. The designer called Adele is “fat,” Lana Del Rey a “construct,” and if that’s not enough, is thoroughly unimpressed with M.I.A. flipping the bird at the Super Bowl.
The 78-year-old Lagerfeld, infamous for his explosive and vivid public outbursts, let his points of view on the music industry rip as the guest editor of global newspaper Metro.
When asked his opinion on female pop stars, Lagerfeld said, “The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.”
He continued, moving on to Lana Del Rey: “Lana Del Rey is not bad at all. She looks very much like a modern-time singer. In her photos she is beautiful. Is she a construct with all her implants? She’s not alone with implants.” He may have had choice words about Adele’s weight, but Lagerfeld said he prefers British songstresses like Ms. Adkins and Florence Welch to Del Rey.
When asked about M.I.A. giving the middle finger at the Super Bowl, Lagerfeld said, “Nowadays people give the middle finger quite quickly — it’s not the best behavior. Everybody does that, what’s new about that?”

Will Adele be hurt by Karl’s thoughts? Adele couldn’t care less about her weight, according to her British Vogue cover story last year. “I enjoy being me. I always have done. I’ve seen people where it rules their lives, you know, who want to be thinner or have bigger boobs, and how it wears them down. And I just don’t want that in my life,” Adele said. “It’s just never been an issue — at least, I’ve never hung out with the sort of horrible people who make it an issue. I have insecurities of course, but I don’t hang out with anyone who points them out to me.”
I guess her and Lagerfeld won’t be grabbing a burger together any time soon.
