Can't start new game - "too big screen" bug
So here comes the first whining post with early access:
when I enter the menu, there aren't any options to choose from - no new game, exit etc... when I press esc, it pops up, but everything is centered in the right lower corner, so my guess is the "choosable fields" are in the unseen part of the screen.

I tried to set it in windowed mode, but when i restart the game my settings are reseted

Can you tryrunning steam as an administratro?

tried, the center of screen is still far off from the laptop's monitor, still not saving settings.

Hey could you try the following thing for me?

-Darkest Dungeon Properties
-Set Launch Options
-size 1280 720

This should start your game in windowed mode

When you run with -size it will override your graphics options settings. You should be able to set up your options in the start screen and save. Then remove the command line argument.

wow, thanks for the quick reply, now it works in windowed mode :D

Save the options then you will have an options save file you can edit in your saved games folder.

Can't start the game too, and the tips (launch options & overlay) doesn't work.

I have the same problem as Wake Up Mr Freeman. I click the Play button, and nothing happens at all - there's no indication Darkest Dungeon runs at all. I tried monitoring the active applications, and didn't see it.

I've tried various fixes suggested:

validate download
no steam overlay
override size options
update device drivers (did multiple times, only have the built in Intel video device)
restart steam
restart machine
run as admin
force video device - not applicable, as I only have the one

No discernable effect in any of these cases. Application never appears to start at all.

I've tried to find a logfile in the Steam install area, but I'm coming up blank for any sort of DD log file.

I know my system is a bit on the older end (late 2012 laptop), but it seemed like it met the minimal requirements. Sure hoped so!

These are my system diagnostics, per Steam:

I actually had this exact same problem. The solution, at least under Windows 8.1 was to go into the resolution settings, then "make text larger or smaller" and change the scaling from 150% to 100%. This completely fixed the issue but be aware that it makes your default text size much smaller so you may want to switch back after you are done playing.

This is a scaling issue on high resolution screens. To fix this do the following:

- Browse to the folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DarkestDungeon\_windows
- Right click darkest.exe file and choose compatibility
- Tick the "Disable display scaling on high DPI setting

Start the game as normal

This worked for me as im running the game on a 13" laptop @ 1920x1080. Hope this helps! :D

The text scaling might also work ofc, but this will override for this application only!

Thanks Tony. That fixed my problem on Win 8.1 using my 1920x1080 laptop.
