BALTIMORE — The Yankees will be dealing with a whole slew of injuries during Friday's doubleheader against the Orioles at Camden Yards.

Here's a rundown:

Shortstop Derek Jeter wasn't in the 1 p.m. game's starting lineup after getting nailed in the left elbow with a pitch late in Thursday night's win over the Rays.

Tests didn't show any structural damage in Jeter's elbow, Girardi said.

"I have not seen him," manager Joe Girardi said. "He's sore. He was pretty sore (Thursday) night."

Brendan Ryan was scheduled to start in his place in the early game.

Girardi added that he wasn't sure whether Jeter would play in the nightcap. The Yankees also have a day game here against the Orioles Saturday, and Jeter has a history this season of either sitting or DH-ing the day after night games.

Third baseman Chase Headley still wasn't with the team Friday. He was hit in the jaw with a 96-mph fastball Thursday night.

Headley, who didn't lose any teeth, went to see a neurologist Friday morning, Girardi said. He'll rejoin the team this weekend, and the club will monitor whether he experiences concussion symptoms.

Left fielder Brett Gardner also wasn't in the early game's starting lineup, but he was scheduled to test his strained lower abdominal by running and taking batting practice before it.

Girardi said Gardner might be able to play in the night game. He hasn't played since Sept. 5.

The Yankees activated righty David Phelps from the 15-day disabled list, where he had been with elbow inflammation since early August.

Phelps could give the Yankees between 25 and 30 pitches out of the bullpen in either game, Girardi said.

Martin Prado was scheduled to start at third base, but the Yankees will watch whether his recently strained left hamstring acts up, Girardi said.

The injury held Prado out of several games this month. But he hit a pinch-hit homer in Thursday's win.
