I can see why asus is the largest name motherboard company, the features and performance of this motherboard is unmatched, I have went thru several motherboards with the same exact CPU and ram..
Not many manufactures make a mini-itx FM1 socket motherboard and I went with Asrock at first and the performance and stability was so bad.. i just figured it was because it was the first generation APU's.... the VRM's on that one broke and i used the warranty to get a new one.. and it was the same exact thing going on... another year went by and that motherboard finally broke as well...
It has been 2 years since Asus has made this motherboard and it was very hard to find. With blind luck someone sold it on at the time I needed another motherboard...
I was so scared it was not going to work.. but the motherboard came in its original packaging and all the original parts still with it.. the motherboard overclocked far beyond what my old ASRock's was able to do.. on the same exact components.. I may never go back to another brand after this experience...
This was perhaps the greatest purchase of my life.. and i will do it again 50 times over if given the chance.
I have the latest firmware, and I know how to reset the BIOS and whatnot. I use an A8-3800 processor. Overall the board is fine, but it's really annoying that it malfunctions when used with an HDMI monitor. In my experience, the system hangs randomly during POST when connected to HDMI only. This was a very time-consuming problem to narrow down through troubleshooting, as it was totally unexpected, and the only monitor I had easy access to was HDMI and VGA only and this board doesn't have a VGA-out.
Works great! Only problem I have encountered is since I am using this as an HTPC, it is connected to my receiver via HDMI.
After I installed Windows 7, I noticed that I wasn't seeing the UEFI Bios startup screen, which gives you the option to enter the UEFI and make adjustments. I tried just starting the computer and immediately hitting the DEL key, the screen on the TV would just be blank.
I did a TON of searches on Google and found out that it is an issue with the HDMI.
So, I tried something out...I turned off the receiver, started the computer and immediately starting hitting the DEL key.......after giving it about 10-15 secs, I turned the receiver on......BAM!! there was the UEFI!!! Annoying to have to do, but I don't plan on having to go into the BIOS all that often.
I will be plastering this "work-around" in as many forums as I can find where people have posted this similar issue.
I am pretty pleased with this MB in general. The build went rather smoothly, and the internal wireless works well, although the antennae are a little bizarre. The tiny remote is way cool - I wish it were available on its own so I could buy one for use with other builds. My only complaint is with the hybrid Crossfire. It was difficult to get it to work, and the performance increment was disappointing when I benchmarked it. (I used an XFX 6670). I later switched the computer to a 32" HDMI TV as monitor and could not get any video whatsoever out of HDMI or DVI and had no screen access to adjust the BIOS. So I removed the external card and the problem was solved, but now I have an empty slot and an idle card. I would not recommend this MB for gamers - it works perfectly well for my initial use as a Windows 8 testbed, or as an HTPC. This is its intended purpose.
This is a great board for your HTPC builds. Comes with USB 2.0, USB 3.0, ESATA, WiFi, and Bluetooth connectors/antenna on the board. There is even a PCI-E16 expansion slot to beef up your graphics needs should you want to do some heavy gaming with a better video processor than the one that comes integrated on the CPU which will fit onto this motherboard. Boot times into Windows 7 are quick, and the UEFI BIOS will allow you to boot hard drives larger than 2TB. It's just too bad that the future FM2 CPU successors (Trinity) will not fit onto this Llano motherboard.
